Painters in Leavenworth, Kansas
Leavenworth is the oldest city in Kansas, and that shows up in the paint. A lot of the housing stock here predates 1978, a good share of it predates 1900, and eight registered historic districts sit inside the city limits. Painting an old house well is a different job than painting a new one โ more prep, different rules, and consequences if you get it wrong.
That is most of what we do.
What we paint
- Exterior painting โ the job where prep decides how long it lasts.
- Interior painting โ whole houses, single rooms, trim and ceilings.
- Cabinet painting โ a fraction of what new cabinets cost, when the boxes are sound.
- Historic home painting โ the districts, the state review, and lead-safe work.
Where we work
- Lansing โ four miles south, same crews, same week.
- Fort Leavenworth โ PCS timelines, move-out standards, and why summer books solid.
- Plus Tonganoxie, Basehor, Easton and the rest of Leavenworth County.
Two things worth knowing before you get quotes
If the house was built before 1978, federal lead rules apply to the prep. The EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule requires a certified firm and certified renovators for work that disturbs painted surfaces in pre-1978 homes. Scraping and sanding an old exterior disturbs paint. Ask any contractor you are talking to whether their firm is EPA lead-safe certified, and ask to see it. In a city this old it is not a technicality.
If your property sits in one of the eight historic districts, there may be a review step. The city puts it plainly: changes to a property listed on the National or State Historic Register, inside a registered historic district, or a local landmark require a state law review or a Certificate of Appropriateness under K.S.A. 75-2724. What that means for repainting specifically depends on the property and the work โ see the historic homes page.
